Since 2010, Atelier 3D couleur, the leading colour design agency in France, has been involved in an eco-friendly project in collaboration with the company IQAP, producer of masterbatch colour systems for the plastics industry. In 2011, this ideal collaboration between industry and design led to the launch of the first range of 100% natural colours for bioplastics.

These biodegradable pigments, derived from mineral and vegetable sources, are combined with new technologies for the production of natural plastics based on potato starch (biotech-patented) or corn starch (polyactic acid or “PLA”). An initial range of 12 mineral shades was achieved by the precise dosing of earth pigments and ochres. The range was expanded in 2013 to include 12 new natural colours of vegetable origin.

A simple, natural and eco-friendly process, biobatch has been registered with the I.N.P.I. (the French national institute for industrial property), in order to protect this unique, innovative and creative concept.

These original bioplastics are natural products, all composed of constituents which are sourced from the earth. Mineral ochre, dye plants, potato starch or corn starch – these natural products are completely harmless to the environment. After use in equivalent applications to plastics derived from petrochemicals, this revolutionary plastic returns to the earth from which it came. A simple idea which makes all the difference…
